Aquila Descends In BR-05 36mm Blue Diamond Eagle: The Diamond Constellation That Stole Her Heart

In the ancient Greco-Roman imagination, Aquila was no ordinary eagle. It was the celestial emissary of Zeus himself — a majestic creature entrusted to traverse the liminal space between mortals and gods, carrying divine messages across the heavens.

With wings unfurled against an infinite canopy of stars, Aquila came to embody power, freedom, destiny and ascension. Millennia later, its silhouette still glimmers above summer skies, immortalised not merely in mythology, but now upon the wrist.

It was, she would later insist, entirely unplanned.

A languid weekday afternoon at Kuala Lumpur’s The Exchange TRX had begun innocently enough: brunch, laughter and a leisurely stroll through luxury boutiques. Then came the moment.

A fleeting glance through the glass façade of Bell & Ross. A flash of midnight blue. A constellation of diamonds suspended in what appeared to be a fragment of the night sky itself.

Love, as it happens, occasionally arrives disguised as a watch.

Within minutes, the Malaysian collector found herself fastening the new BR-05 36mm Blue Diamond Eagle to her wrist, surrendering without resistance to one of the most enchanting creations Bell & Ross has produced in recent memory.

At first glance, the piece feels almost dreamlike. Yet beneath its poetry lies the disciplined rigour that has defined Bell & Ross since its founding in 1994 by Carlos-A. Rosillo and Bruno Belamich.

Conceived at the intersection of French design and Swiss watchmaking, the maison built its reputation creating professional aviation instruments before disrupting the industry in 2005 with the revolutionary BR-01 and its now-iconic “round within a square” architecture.

That unconventional silhouette remains among the most recognisable visual signatures in contemporary horology, translating cockpit instrumentation into a design language beloved by collectors worldwide.

The BR-05 collection represents the urban evolution of that philosophy. It retains the architectural strength of Bell & Ross’s aviation DNA while embracing metropolitan sophistication. The new Blue Diamond Eagle may be its most seductive interpretation yet.

Its 36mm satin-finished and polished steel case possesses an elegant restraint that belies the extraordinary artistry within.

Measuring just 8.7mm thick and water-resistant to 100 metres, it houses the automatic BR-CAL.329 movement with a generous 54-hour power reserve — a reassuring mechanical heartbeat beneath all that celestial splendour.

Yet it is the dial that truly entrances.

Fashioned from deep blue aventurine glass, the surface resembles an impossibly clear summer sky scattered with distant stars.

The material itself demands remarkable technical precision, requiring specialised cutting, drilling and machining before being secured onto a brass plate with micron-level accuracy.

Across this cosmic canvas emerges Aquila.

Seven diamonds recreate the Eagle constellation exactly as it appears in the heavens, with Altair — among the brightest stars visible from Earth — represented by the largest stone positioned between ten and eleven o’clock.

Three further diamonds form the wings and tail, while additional stones complete the celestial outline. Twelve more diamonds replace conventional hour markers, creating a luminous constellation of eighteen diamonds upon the dial itself.

Surrounding this astronomical tableau is a bezel ablaze with 108 diamonds, transforming the watch into something that transcends jewellery and watchmaking alike.

It becomes an object of reverie. A miniature galaxy framed in steel. A talisman of aspiration.

What makes Aquila particularly fascinating, however, extends far beyond Greek mythology.

Across Asia, the constellation occupies a remarkably rich cultural landscape. Altair is celebrated in China’s Qixi Festival and Japan’s Tanabata, where it represents the celestial cowherd separated from his beloved by the Milky Way, permitted a reunion only once each year.

The star thus becomes a symbol of longing, devotion and destiny fulfilled against impossible odds. Elsewhere, eagles have long represented imperial authority, spiritual vision and transcendence, appearing in folklore, dynastic symbolism and sacred traditions from Central Asia to the Far East.

In this context, Bell & Ross’s choice feels unexpectedly profound.

An aviation-inspired maison known for professional instruments has transformed a navigational constellation into an intimate expression of romance, aspiration and personal mythology.

The eagle becomes both celestial guide and emotional compass. The sky becomes something one can wear.

For the collector who wandered into the boutique that afternoon, the acquisition scarcely felt like a purchase. It felt more like fate.

Perhaps that is the true brilliance of the BR-05 36mm Blue Diamond Eagle. It speaks simultaneously to the engineer and the dreamer, the horological purist and the incurable romantic.

It captures everything Bell & Ross does best — technical precision, visual distinction and unwavering craftsmanship — while offering something infinitely rarer: wonder.

And like Aquila itself, once it appears overhead, it becomes almost impossible to look away.

The new BR-05 36mm Blue Diamond Eagle watch retails from RM 21,600 and is available now in all Bell & Ross boutiques worldwide.
