Maje’s Summer In The City: A Sensuous Ode To The Lingering Mediterranean Summer Of Saint-Tropez

By late afternoon, Saint-Tropez turns honeyed. The sea catches the last extravagant rays of the Mediterranean sun, scooters hum lazily along narrow streets, and café chairs spill into pavements as though nobody has quite remembered that the rest of Europe has begun preparing for autumn.

Delila, a 30-year-old content creator from Geneva now based in Saint-Tropez, watches it all from beneath oversized sunglasses. In Geneva, precision and priority exist side by side; here, time loosens its grip.

Days become languid, encounters more spontaneous, life deliciously human. While Paris and Geneva surrender their green foliage to gold, red and brown, Delila remains defiantly, gloriously in summer.

Her secret is partly the wardrobe.

Maje’s Summer In The City feels made for precisely this sort of beautiful temporal rebellion: a collection that refuses to accept that summer must end simply because the calendar says so. It transports the theatrical femininity of the Sixties to a contemporary Riviera, balancing metropolitan polish with the delicious nonchalance of Saint-Tropez.

The result is less a holiday wardrobe than a state of mind—sunlit, flirtatious, liberated and wonderfully impervious to convention.

Its cinematic references are irresistible. Cropped shirts, lightweight matching sets and sharply considered silhouettes punctuated by gold buttons summon the diva glamour of Dalida, while halterneck dresses, bubble skirts and open-backed shapes channel the languorous allure associated with Brigitte Bardot.

Graphic polka dots and vintage-inspired prints add another layer of Riviera mythology, recalling the polished escapism of Monaco’s glamorous princesses without descending into costume.

That distinction matters. Maje has always understood that femininity works best when it possesses a little contradiction. Founded in Paris in 1998 by Judith Milgrom, who was raised in Morocco before making Paris her creative home, the house grew from her desire to create clothing that allowed women to feel feminine throughout their many daily lives.

Maje itself is an intimate family name: the letters reference Milgrom’s family, while its aesthetic draws together Mediterranean warmth and Parisian ease.

Maje’s first Paris boutique on rue du Four opened in 2002. From that Left Bank beginning, the brand developed an international vocabulary of feminine, urban and modern dressing.

Today, Maje describes itself as an international house present in 40 countries, with 620 points of sale.

The enduring appeal lies precisely in its refusal to dress a single type of woman. Milgrom’s vocabulary is recognisably feminine without being precious, sophisticated without becoming ceremonious, and versatile enough to travel from city morning to Mediterranean midnight.

Maje calls this spirit bold, urban and modern; its own history also emphasises the founder’s belief in fashion as something to be lived rather than rigidly controlled.

For Summer In The City, that philosophy becomes particularly seductive.

Linen brings an almost tactile lightness to the collection; organic cotton lends softness and ease, while deep-blue denim introduces precisely the metropolitan grounding the title promises.

The palette moves through the natural vocabulary of summer—crisp neutrals, marine blues and graphic contrasts—punctuated by polka dots and vintage-inflected prints. Nothing feels excessively decorated.

The glamour comes through proportion, buttons, movement, exposed shoulders, bare backs and beautifully controlled volume.

The pieces to covet are consequently those with the longest afterlife: the cropped shirt worn with a matching lightweight set; the halterneck dress that can migrate effortlessly from beachside lunch to late-night aperitivo; the bubble skirt paired with a simple top; the open-back silhouette that needs almost nothing else; and the blue denim pieces capable of surviving long after the Riviera tan has faded.

Accessories complete the fantasy without overwhelming it. Maje’s handbags, jewellery, sunglasses and other finishing touches are designed to modernise rather than merely accessorise an outfit—exactly the kind of punctuation that allows a summer wardrobe to transition intelligently into the city.

The house continues to position its accessories alongside ready-to-wear as part of an adaptable, contemporary wardrobe.

And perhaps that is the real sophistication of Summer In The City. It does not ask women to choose between Paris and Saint-Tropez, discipline and freedom, polish and pleasure. It proposes the more alluring possibility of having both.

For Delila, autumn can wait.

The Mediterranean light is still warm, the evening is only beginning, and her Maje wardrobe has made summer feel less like a season than a beautifully persistent attitude.
