Ralph’s Coffee At Suria KLCC: A Deliciously Dressed Cup Of Americana

A wisp of autumn morning light permeates Ralph Lauren’s lavishly decorated master suite in Manhattan. Yet, like much of New York, the day is officially awakened by the smell of freshly brewed coffee. 

As hypnotising wafts curl upwards from fine bone-china cups, the Bronx-born living legend inhales the intoxicating aroma and takes his first sip. Suddenly, the New York he grew up with comes alive: yellow cabs and buses honk; pedestrians stream across Wall Street; Times Square advertisements erupt in changing colours; joggers begin to populate Central Park.

Lauren does not merely like coffee. He takes it seriously.

For him, coffee has always been less about caffeine than connection—a simple ritual of sharing time with family and friends. It is precisely this democratic pleasure that inspired Ralph’s Coffee, which opened its first New York outpost in 2014 overlooking Fifth Avenue. 

Conceived as a warm, welcoming expression of the Ralph Lauren universe, it translated the designer’s timeless American sensibility from wardrobe into hospitality. 

Twelve years later, that story arrives at Suria KLCC.

The newly opened Ralph’s Coffee, directly opposite the Ralph Lauren boutique at Lot OS103, Level 1, is the brand’s second coffee destination in Malaysia, following its Pavilion Kuala Lumpur outpost. And there is something wonderfully logical about the pairing: coffee, clothes and conversation, all under one exquisitely polished roof.

The café itself channels Ralph Lauren’s particular talent for making Americana feel simultaneously familiar and impossibly desirable. Its aesthetic is relaxed rather than precious, with the visual language of a timeless American coffeehouse filtered through the designer’s instinct for refinement. 

One comes for coffee, naturally, but stays for the atmosphere—and perhaps for the rather irresistible possibility of pretending, just briefly, that Manhattan has somehow relocated beneath the Kuala Lumpur sun.

Then comes the coffee.

Ralph’s signature blends draw on beans from Central and South America, roasted locally in Malaysia, while the wider Ralph’s Coffee repertoire includes its established Ralph’s Roast, Decaf and Espresso. Pair one with the carrot cake or chocolate cake and the afternoon becomes considerably more persuasive. 

The oatmeal and chocolate-chip cookies are equally difficult to resist: uncomplicated, generous and wonderfully nostalgic, precisely the sort of sweet indulgence that makes a coffee break feel like an occasion rather than an interruption. Do not forget the equally tempting soft serve, too. 

But on a humid Kuala Lumpur afternoon, the star may well be the KLCC-exclusive Mango Cold Foam Fizz. Fruity, refreshing and gloriously thirst-quenching, it offers a bright tropical counterpoint to Ralph’s more classic coffee rituals. Consider it the wardrobe equivalent of linen on a sweltering day: effortless, elegant and exactly right.

And because this is Ralph Lauren, the experience does not end at the café counter. The adjacent Ralph Lauren store has expanded its assortment, bringing select men’s Purple Label pieces alongside men’s and women’s Polo Ralph Lauren collections. Purple Label, introduced in the mid-1990s, was born from Lauren’s fascination with exceptional tailoring and European craftsmanship, while Polo remains one of the great enduring symbols of American style. 

There is also a particularly charming Mid-Autumn temptation. Purchase the limited-edition Ralph’s Coffee Mooncake Gift Box and, subject to the applicable terms, enjoy an artisanal personalised tea-blending experience on weekends. 

The mooncakes arrive in a wonderfully eccentric vintage-inspired Ralph’s Coffee camper-van tin, accompanied by a delightful Polo Bear-ista figurine; this year’s six mini mooncakes come in Salted Butter Scotch Brownie and Coffee Custard Yolk in Chocolate Skin. 

It is an apt little metaphor for Ralph Lauren himself.

What began in 1967 with a collection of wide neckties called Polo evolved into a complete menswear collection, an iconic polo shirt, womenswear, tailoring, home, fragrances, hospitality and an extraordinary constellation of labels.  

Yet Lauren’s greatest achievement may be neither the polo player nor the empire behind it. It is his ability to make an entire way of life feel tangible.

At Suria KLCC, that life now comes with cake crumbs, cold foam, perfectly brewed coffee—and, naturally, rather good clothes.

And frankly, darling, that sounds like a very fine reason to stop for coffee.
