Elie Saab And H&M: When Couture’s Most Irresistible Dreamer Brings Beirut’s Glamour To The World

There was a boy in Beirut who looked at fabric and saw possibility. Around the age of nine, Elie Saab was already cutting cloth, sketching dresses and transforming scraps of fabric and curtains into miniature creations for his sisters.

Long before the flashbulbs, royal commissions and red carpets, there was simply instinct: an extraordinary child with an equally extraordinary conviction that fabric could become fantasy.

Then came 1982. Against the extraordinary backdrop of Lebanon’s civil war, an 18-year-old Saab opened his first atelier in Beirut. His early reputation was built upon exquisitely worked bridal and eveningwear, attracting a discerning clientele across Lebanon and the Middle East.

From that intimate beginning emerged a fashion house whose particular language — intensely feminine, lavishly embellished and unapologetically romantic — would eventually become recognisable around the world.

Now, in a collaboration that feels almost destined, ELIE SAAB meets H&M.

Launching in selected stores and online on 22 October 2026, the limited-edition collection translates the house’s couture sensibility into a broader wardrobe encompassing womenswear, menswear and accessories, including footwear. Its aesthetic is unmistakably Saab: embellished gowns, shimmering separates, sharply cut tailoring, fine lace, gradient sequins and signature monograms.

It is less an exercise in dilution than an intriguing proposition — what happens when one of couture’s most seductive visual vocabularies is released from the salon and invited into everyday life?

For the avid Saab devotee, the gowns will naturally command attention. Yet the shimmering separates and sharply tailored pieces may prove the more compelling investments: easier to incorporate, but still imbued with that unmistakable Saab drama.

They promise the rare pleasure of owning something that understands glamour without requiring a red carpet.

“We are thrilled to announce this landmark collaboration with ELIE SAAB. Mr Saab is a designer we have always respected – the journey from master of bridalwear in Beirut to the centre of Paris fashion is an amazing, rich story,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M Creative Advisor and Head of Design Womenswear. “and we are so excited to be exploring his world. Our customers can expect a magical, ornate and glamourous collection.”

And Saab himself describes the project with characteristic generosity:

“This collection is created for all who admire the world of ELIE SAAB, and I hope it will be embraced with the same enthusiasm it was created with. I am very happy with this collaboration and with the way we worked together with the H&M team to bring the collection to life. It has been a truly collaborative and inspiring process,” Saab comments. “Each piece has been created with care and dedication, bringing together a complete wardrobe that speaks to every moment of a woman’s life.”

It is difficult to discuss Saab without discussing femininity. His greatest achievement may be that he never treated glamour as frivolity. His dresses have consistently understood the emotional architecture of occasion dressing: the anticipation before an entrance, the hush when a woman appears, the memory created when she leaves.

His 2002 Oscar moment with Halle Berry transformed that philosophy into a global cultural phenomenon, while his subsequent recognition in Paris culminated in his becoming a corresponding member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in 2006.

This is where H&M’s role becomes fascinating. Its designer collaborations have repeatedly turned fashion’s most desirable names into cultural events, allowing a far wider audience to encounter distinctive design at considerably more accessible price points.

The Saab edition continues that tradition, but with an especially potent proposition: the opportunity to experience the fantasy of a celebrated couture house without merely observing it from afar.

And that, ultimately, is why this collection matters. Elie Saab has spent four decades making women dream. On 22 October, H&M gives them a chance to wear the dream.

Miss it, and the fantasy may disappear almost as quickly as it arrived.
